Biography

Joachim Meyer is the Celia and Marcos Maus Professor for Data Sciences at the Department of Industrial Engineering. He joined Tel Aviv University in 2012. He holds an M.A. in Psychology and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering (1994) from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. He was a post-doctoral fellow and a researcher at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology and was for 17 years on the faculty of the department of   Industrial Engineering and Management at Ben-Gurion University. He was a visiting scholar at Harvard Business School and a visiting scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he helped to set up the MIT AgeLab. In the 2014-2015 academic year he was a visiting professor at the MIT MediaLab. He is an elected fellow of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, a Senior Member of IEEE, and therecipient of the 2018 Jerome H. Ely Human Factors Award.

His research deals with the modeling of human decisions in interactions with intelligent systems when humans decide about the operation of a system or use the system for their decisions. The research deals with abstract models and laboratory studies, as well as applications in medicine, transportation, computer security and privacy and managerial decision making. He was the chairperson of the Israeli Ergonomics Society and was the head of the department of Industrial Engineering at Tel Aviv University from 2015 until 2019.

Quantitative models of intelligent human-machine systems, decision making, decision support systems, information presentation, interaction with automation and autonomous systems, use of data sciences for decision making
